Well, you'll have to excuse the photo quality. It was either this or nothing. 
So these are the latest custom made puppets I made. They're slightly bigger than the usual keyring puppetlings and their joints are made of elastic thread and buttons.

Kuklalari epoksi macunu ve polimer kil ile yapildi, bazi yerleri akrilikle boyandi sonra da akrilik vernikle kaplandilar. Kostumlerini yaparken o kadar eglendim ki, anlatamam. Ozellikle Burak Bey'in t-shirt yakasinda ^_^

The puppets are made of epoxy putty and polymer clay, some bits are painted with acrylics and coated with acrylic varnish. I can't tell you how I enjoyed making the costumes. Especially the collar of Burak's t-shirt. ^_^

These little ones were supposed to be the last post of 2011, couldn't make it. So here they are now as the first post of 2012 ^_^

Bu minik kukla anahtarliklar 7-8 cm civarinda, polimer kil ve epoksi macunu kullanilarak yapildilar ve akrilikle boyandilar.

These puppetlings measure about 7-8 cm. They're made of polymer clay and epoxy putty, painted with acrylics and coated with matte varnish.

Cowboy Pepa

evet, maas olarak kukla alan bir ekibim var. karsinizda pepa bey ve minyaturu kovboy pepa. bir baska deyisle, kisiye ozel kuklada yeni donem! hehe :) 

yani isin asli su, fotograftaki western evi ve de kuklanin oturmakta oldugu sallanan sandalye tamamen pepa bey'in eseri. filmde de bizzat bunlarin sahibi olmak isteyince ortaya kovboy pepa cikti. ben de neden bu durumu film disina da tasimayayim dedim. yani bildiginiz sevdiginiz "kisiye ozel kukla"lari, bambaska kostumler ve temalar icinde dusunun. hediye sahibini en sevdigi film karakteri olarak mesela.. hmm?

yes, my crew take their wages as puppets. and here i present you pepa and his miniature puppet, cowboy pepa. in other words, a new era in custom made puppets!

well, the thing is, the western house and the rocking chair (the one cowboy pepa is sitting on) were all made by pepa. and he wanted to appear as the owner of all these in the film. so, cowboy pepa was born. and then i thought, why should this stay in the film? meaning, the custom made puppets will now be available in different themes and costumes. wouldn't a puppet as a character from the favorite film of the gift owner be wonderful? think about it ;)

evet efenim, uZunca bir aranin ardindan bir diger kisiye oZel kukla hikayesiyle (ve de bir onceki postta bahsetmis oldugum yilbasi susleriye) yeniden karsiniZdayim..

yeah well, i'm back with another puppets on a custom order story (and also the christmas ornaments i was talking about in the previous post) after quite a long time..

bu ciftimiZ de yine tel iskeletler ve polimer kil (farketmeyenler ya da tam tersine farkedenler icin gelsin bu paranteZ ici aciklamasi da; modurit yerine polimer kil diyorum artik. baska seyler olduklarindan degil yani, ha modurit ha polimer kil. hatta evvelce mass dedigim sey de bu modurit'in [nam-i diger polimer kil] ta kendisi. neyse) marifetiyle yapildilar. dirsek, omuZ bel, kalca ve diZ eklemlerinden hareket edebiliyor (beyefendinin ayak bilekleri de hareket kapasitesi dahilinde), kendi ayaklari uZerinde durabiliyorlar. 20 cm civarindalar ayni Zamanda..

this couple here was made of polymer clay and wire armatures as usual. (in case you're wondering what i was talking about above within brackets; i was just explaining how polymer clay and modurit were actually the same thing.) their joints are on the elbows, shoulders, waists, hips and knees (the gentleman has another pair of joints on his ankles as well) and they can sit and/or stand on their own. and they're around 20 cm..

bacaklar icin son Zamanlarda beni en cok heyecanlandiran islerin sahibi lisa lichtenfels hanimefendiden etkilenip gelistirdigim bir teknik kullandim. ve icimden bir ses bu yeni teknigi daha cok gormeye haZir olmaniZ gerektigini soyluyor. efenim, mevZu bahis teknigimiZ soyle; eklemleri acikta birakarak hamurumuZla her Zamanki gibi kapliyoruZ iskeleti. ardindan ince sungerimiZle yine her Zamanki gibi eklem boslugunu dolduruyoruZ. her Zamanki olmayan kisma geldik simdi.. butun bunlari yaptiktan sonra bacaklarimiZin olcusune gore kestigimiZ bir parca penyeyle kapliyoruZ bir bacagi oldugu gibi (botlar da hamur, kumas olayi isin icine girmeden once yapildilar). ardindan da tenimiZin rengine boyuyoruZ. boylece hem eklem yerleri tuhaf gorunmeyen, hem de egilip bukulebilen bir cift bacagimiZ oluyor..

as the order owner ms. dilara's request, we tried to make the day (which you can see in the previous photo) eternal with some help from the costuming as well. in the unseen part of the photo and the unknown part of the iceberg, were these pink rain boots and this skirt with tulles. and as for the legs themselves, i developed a new technique based on lisa lichtenfels' works (which, by the way, are one of the most exciting things i've ever seen lately. exciting and apparently inspiring..). so here's how it goes, we cover the armature with clay -leaving the joints naked- as usual. after baking, we cover the naked parts with thin foam, again as usual. and as for the unusual step, we cover the whole leg with a piece of cloth (the boots were made before all this cloth business, with clay as well). after painting it, voila! you have you bendable legs without any weird looking knees. i know, it's not like a huge discovery or anything but.. still.. i'm kinda happy with this achievement. and just to let you know, something tells me that you'll be seeing this technique quite frequently..

ve bu beyefendi de her Zamanki eski usul yontemlerle yapildi. cok ilginc bir durum yok yani. pantolon icin kece, gomlek icin de eski bir gomlek kullanildi (bu ikinci el dukkanlarini fena halde sever oldum. hem kendime alacak bir suru ust bas bulabildigim, hem de ve daha Ziyade sundugu turlu cesit kumas opsiyonu icin..) tum sac, sakal ve hatta kaslarda gercek yun kullanildi.

and the gentleman here was made with the same old technique, nothing fancy. felt was used for the pants and an old shirt was recycled for the shirt (oh i',m really loving second hand shops, both for the pretty clothes i can find for myself and mostly for the fabric choices they have to offer). all the facial hair, including the eyebrows, were made of mohair.

well, now we're at the end of yet another love story. even though i believe that our couple is still somewhere between cZech land and turkey, let's finish the tale properly. so instead of 3 apples, there're 3 kg of raspberries falling down this time. and i'll be the one who gets to eat them all.. i just love raspberries, couldn't help it..

Ozel Siparis Kukla / Puppet on a Custom Order

efenim, bir siparis kuklasiyla daha karsiniZdayim. aslinda bu kukla biteli oluyor epey ama haftaici firsat bulup da cekememistim fotograflarini bir turlu. bu huZurlariniZdaki de alper bey.

here i am with another custom order. i've finished this one a while ago, but i just couldn't find the time to photograph it durung this week. fotografta daha kahverengiye kaciyor sac rengi ama alper bey oZellikle belirtti saclarinin aslinda siyah oldugunu.

he has a bit brownish hair in the photograph, but mr. alper especially indicated that his hair was actually black.
yine polimer kil, tel, yun ve kumaslarla yapildi kendileri. bir de ekstradan cikarilabilen bir gunes goZlugu var kafasinda. boyun ve el bilekleri haric tum eklemleri hareketli. boyu da 20.5 cm.

again, polymer clay, wire, mohair and fabrics were used to make him. and he has a pair of removable sunglasses on his head. all his joints are working except for the ones in his neck and wrists, and he stands 20.5 cm tall.
bir de dedim madem hediye olacak bu kukla, bari elinde bir de hediyesi olsun kendisinin de. boylece alper bey'e de supriZ olan bir minyatur buket verdim eline.

and since this was going to be a gift, i thought it'd be better to give him a gift too. this miniature bouquet was a surprise for mr. alper also.

Ozel Siparis Kuklalar / Puppets on a Custom Order

Zlin'e donustu, yerlesmeydi, yeni senaryo ugraslariydi filan derken anca firsat bulabildim. (Zlin yolculugumu da buradan iZleyebilirsiniZ bu arada) efenim bu asagida gormus oldugunuZ kuklalar dilara hanim'in siparisi uZerine iZmir'de baslayip Zlin'de tamalayabimis oldugum siparis kuklalari olmakta.

i've been carried away with moving back to Zlin, un-packing, working on a new script and all. so finally i've found the time to post this. (btw, here you can watch my journey to Zlin) anyway, in the photo below, you see the two puppets, which i've started to make in iZmir and finally finish in Zlin, on a custom order.hemen asagida ise kuklalarin sahiplerini goruyorsunuZ. dilara hanim'in istegi uZerine beyefendinin suratini giZledik.

and on the photo right below, is the couple. on ms. dilara's request, i blurred the gentleman's face.

even though the couple is in their summer clothes on the photo above, what i've been asked for was these winter clothes.
so what you see on this photo is ms. dilara with a red coat (which was also made based on a photograph of the real thing), jeans and polka dotted shoes on request.
i used felt and handmade buttons for the coat. it's also removable.

and as for the last but not least, here is our gentleman below with his coat, removable scarf, jeans and black converses. also, i used raw wool not only for his hair but his sideburns and beard as well.

stop-motion kukla siparisi / custom order for a stop-motion puppet

efenim, stop-motion testlerinde kullanilmak uZere yapmis oldugum basit ve temel bir kukla kendileri. ayrica ilk stop-motion kukla siparisim oldugu icin de ayrica oZel bir oneme sahip.
istenen, sadece animasyon testlerini yapabilmek ve biraZ da deneyim kaZanmak amaciyla kullanilmak uZere, cok detayi olmayan basit bir kuklaydi.

this one is a basic puppet i've made upon a custom order to be used in stop-motion tests. and since it's my first stop-motion puppet for a custom order, it's a bit more special than others.
the aim of the order was to have a simple yet appropriate puppet to be able to gain some experience on working with puppets and do some animation tests.

kukla bittikten sonra ben de uygunlugunu ve hareket kapasitesini test etmek ve sahibine gostermek maksadiyla iki test cektim. iki cift goZkapagina (acik ve kapali) ve 3 farkli agiZa (kapali, acik, gulumseyen) sahip olan bu kuklacigin goZleri de disardan bir igne yardimiya hareket ettirilebiliyor. testlerin ilkinde goZkapaklari ve agiZlari da denedim. ikincisinde ise daha cok beden animasyonuna yogunlasip ekstralarini hic kullanmadim.
dedigim gibi, cok basit, sadece nasil hareket edebildigini vs. gormek icin yapmis oldugum icin bilgisayarin kamerasini kullanarak cektigim cok temel iki test oldu bunlar. o yuZden isik degisimleri ve oZellikle ilk testteki arka plan oynamasini maZur gorun..

after the puppet was ready, i shot two animation tests to be sure that the puppet was suitable for animating. he has two pairs of eyelids (one pair of closed, and one pair of open) and three different mouths (closed, open, smiling). and his eyeballs can be controlled with a pin, from outside (obviously). i used those features in the first test. and in the second one, i focused on the general body animation so i didn't use any of the mouths or eyelids whatsoever.
as i said before, these were the tests i've done just to see how he moves, etc. with my computer's in-built webcam. so, please excuse the flickering (caused by the light changes) and especially the moving background in the first one.
